Make a Lasting Impression

I am very passionate about AdvoCare, and this is why; the products have helped me achieve my goals of weight loss, long-distance running, and being able to help others achieve their health goals.  I am proud to represent AdvoCare and did so yesterday in McKinney, TX by running a 10K benefiting the Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney, along with my Belgian Malinois, Lucy.  Here are some pictures of us starting and finishing:

Before the run I had Spark (Pink Lemonade) and Arginine Extreme, mixed together in water, along with O2 Gold, which is becoming one of my favorite products.  I also had a Chocolate Peanut Butter Meal Replacement Shake.

It was a very hot and humid fall day in McKinney, TX so Lucy and I needed some hydration after the run.  Lucy was given a bowl of water and I had my Rehydrate (Berry Lemon Ice).  Rehydrate is so much better for you than Gatorade, because it has a 1:1 ratio of sodium to potassium and 6 grams of sugar, compared to Gatorade’s 4:1 ratio and 32 grams of sugar.  I have stated this before, but I feel the need to stress it again!

I hope everyone has a great week!  Please check out my website at www.advocare.com/150823204/ to shop AdvoCare’s first class products.  Also, I have a Facebook page:  AdvoCare by Lori.  Please stop by and like my page!  Blessings to everyone.

September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

The AdvoCare Foundation is committed to fighting childhood obesity.  More than one in five children are affected, and most likely it’s not their fault.  Millions of children are suffering from the effects of obesity, bullying, and shorter life expectancies. AdvoCare  has partnered with other organizations across the country whose work impacts the safety and health of children in need.

Why childhood obesity?

  • More than one-third of children in America are considered overweight or obese.
  • Children in low-income households are twice as likely to be obese.
  • The percentage of children with obesity in the United States has tripled over the last 40 years.
  • If nothing changes, one-third of all children born after 2000 will suffer from diabetes.

More than 20% of children live in areas where adequate food is not available.  With the decrease of opportunities to be active, more than 74% of elementary-aged children do not get enough exercise on a daily basis.  Desserts and nutritionally empty foods have crept in.

Last year, AdvoCare granted $130,000 to programs focusing on child health and wellness issues.  Seven year-long grants were established in major urban cities, and 8,000 young people participated in various AdvoCare Foundation-funded programs.

This year’s recipients are YMCA Metropolitan Dallas, Veri Community Partnership Philadelphia, Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, LA’s Best Los Angeles, Choices Atlanta, and Real School Gardens Dallas.

New Way to Determine if Your Health is at Risk

I read  Dr. Mercola’s articles sometimes, and I was interested in seeing what he had to say about America’s growing obesity problem.  Most doctor’s determine your risk by using BMI (Body Mass Index).  Dr. Mercola states that BMI could be inaccurate; a BMI of 25 to 30 is considered overweight, and anything over 30 is considered obese.  Your BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters. The problem is, this method fails to differentiate between muscle and fat tissue. It also doesn’t take into account the actual distribution of body fat on your physical frame.

According to The Telegraph in May 2013, the danger of visceral fat (deep fat) is related to the release of proteins and hormones that can cause inflammation, which in turn can damage arteries and enter your liver, and affect how your body breaks down sugars and fats. Two tests that give you a far better idea of your body composition and health risk are your waist-to-hip ratio and your height-to-waist ratio.

I have attached a link to a video on how to determine this ratio:  Waist to Hip Ratio

Your waist-to-hip ratio has the added benefit of giving you a better idea of the actual distribution of fat on your body. Having an apple shaped body is indicative of carrying more harmful visceral fat, which is associated with an increased risk for heart disease and diabetes. Carrying more fat around your hips and buttocks, on the other hand, is associated with lower health risks as this subcutaneous fat (fat under the skin) is not nearly as harmful as the fat around your internal organs.

To determine your waist-to-hip ratio, get a tape measure and record your waist and hip circumference. Then divide your waist circumference by your hip circumference. For a more thorough demonstration, please see the video above.

Waist to Hip Ratio Men Women
Ideal 0.8 0.7
Low Risk <0.95 <0.8
Moderate Risk 0.96 to 0.99 0.81 to 0.84
High Risk >1.0 >0.85

AdvoCare’s 24-Day Challenge is the best way to help you combat weight issues; it is NOT a diet, but a lifestyle change.  I would love to help you get your health back!  Please visit My AdvoCare Website and use the Product Navigator to determine what products would best suite your optimal results.

Please pray for those in my state of Texas who have suffered loss from Hurricane Harvey.  I live north of Dallas, so no danger for me, but there are others who have lost everything.

Side Effects of Antidepressants

Are you being treated for moderate or severe depression by a doctor?  Your physician probably prescribed for you some sort of antidepressants.  Here are some common side effects of antidepressants:

  • nausea
  • increased appetite or weight gain
  • loss of sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, and decreased orgasm
  • fatigue and drowsiness
  • insomnia
  • dry mouth
  • blurred vision
  • constipation
  • dizziness
  • agitation
  • irritability
  • anxiety

If you are experiencing any of these side effects and are sick of it, there are some healthier alternatives.  Study after study has shown that exercise has shown to promote mental health and reduces symptoms of depression.  Regular exercise has the same effects on the mind as some medications, like Setraline.  Other things that can help with depression are eating a healthy diet, support optimal brain functioning with essential fats, like AdvoCare’s OmegaPlex, which has high quality Omega 3’s, and get plenty of sunshine!  One study found that people with the lowest levels of vitamin D were 11 times more prone to be depressed than those who had normal levels. Vitamin D deficiency is actually more the norm than the exception, and has previously been implicated in both psychiatric and neurological disorders.

The Redwines’ Story-Building a Dream Team

All it took for Milton Redwine was to try his first Spark.  He heard about AdvoCare at the gym while he and Chelsea were working out.  He was excited about the opportunity, but Chelsea was hesitant. She said AdvoCare sounded great, but they couldn’t afford Spark.

Both Milton and Chelsea worked nights and weekends to pay the bills and support their three-year-old daughter.  Their mentor suggested they share the products with others and earn enough money to pay for their own products.  Eighteen days and three mixers(small group meetings) later, they earned enough to purchase two 24-Day Challenges and began the Challenge right away. Together they lost 35 pounds in the first 60 days with the help of AdvoCare products and lifestyle changes.

The Redwines quickly saw a vision to earn extra money, but saw more than that after attending meetings and business trainings.  They set up three-way conference calls and began hosting one to three mixers per week, both for newcomers and alongside Advisors on their team, to promote their AdvoCare brand.  They also met regularly with their mentors to set a business strategy, which they still do today.

By eliminating distractions, prioritizing personal growth and always focusing on helping newcomers find the right products for their lifestyle, the couple continues to grow heir eam and have been able to leave heir full-time jobs.  They now have two little girls to keep them busy, and Chelsea and Milton are taking in every moment as it comes.
